About the Item

Varujan Boghosian was a sculptor, assembler, constructionist, and builder as well as a beachcomber, scavenger, collector, historian, and conservator. His work was inspired by the past, and by his appreciation for the lives and legacy of the myths, people, and objects that have come before us all. Boghosian gathers the relics of our common experience and from them creates tributes to the universal and limitless creative spirit. By dislocating and repositioning, Boghosian is able to explore the nature of identity and to create new syntheses and new conditions of meaning from items that have seemingly been removed from the possibility of ever transmitting new values or ideas. This playful and beguiling construction is vintage Boghosian. It melds found and collected objects with the artist’s dynamic eye for balance and unparalleled compositional genius.

She was not only a talented sculptor, but was also the matriarch of the uniquely gifted Vevers family of artists: her husband was painter Tony Vevers...
