Xenia Ostrovskaya ist der letzte Neuzugang zum Pool der Künstler, die die Galerie vertritt und ihre witzigen übermalten Postkarten haben schon beim ersten Auftritt auf einer Messe eine fulminante Resonanz gehabt, dem ein „Gallery Statement“ auf der Parallel folgen wird, wo ihre Arbeiten ein eine Installation integriert sind. Seit einigen Jahren konzentriert Xenia Ostrovsakya Ihr Werk auf Übermalungen von alten Postenkarten, denen Sie mit wenigen Pinselstrichen eine neue Botschaft gibt, oder bestehende Botschaften verstärkt und verfremdet. Gerne arbeitet Sie dabei mit Kriegsmotiven, aber auch klassischen alten Ansichtskarten, die oft mit Pflanzen und Tieren (vorzugsweise Schmetterlinge und ihre Puppen). In Ihren letzten Arbeiten zu der Love of My Life zählt, wird die Postkarte nicht nur übermalt sondern in eine größere Ölmalerei integriert, womit die Ideen in größerem Format weitergesponnen werden und die haptische Qualität der Postkarte mit der Noblesse der Leinwand verknüpft werden. Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit ist eine Postkarte, die einen Zirkusdompteur mit einem Löwen zeigen. Der mutige Moment, wird allerdings sowohl durch den Titel als auch die Übermalung vollkommen umgedeutet. Die „Liebe meines Lebens“ ist gleichzeitig flügge und zerbrechlich, sie wird im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes gefressen. Die blau gehaltene Leinwand verstärkt die Symbolebene des Bildes und bringt die Idee ins Schweben. Das Wechselspiel aus einer grotesken Aufnahme, mit neuer malerischen Kontextualisierung gibt Love of My Life eine sinnliche Qualität.
