Andy Warhol's Marilyn series, created shortly after Marilyn Monroe's death in 1962, is one of his most iconic works and represents his exploration of fame, mass culture and the superficiality of consumer society. Warhol took a promotional photograph of the actress from the film Niagara and reproduced it in a series of silkscreen prints. Each print featured variations of color, with vibrant, saturated tones that turned Monroe's face into a kind of pop mask, highlighting both her public image and the notion of celebrity as a product.
In this work, Warhol uses repetition as a technique to depersonalize Marilyn Monroe, creating a distance between the person and the icon. By reproducing her image in multiple combinations of colors and shapes, Warhol suggests that Monroe, in the public mind, is no longer an individual, but a figure consumed and reconfigured by pop culture. The silkscreen technique, which Warhol popularized, allowed him to replicate Monroe's image quickly and mechanically, reflecting how mass media turns identity into something impersonal and reproducible.
Marilyn is also a reflection on mortality and the emptiness behind fame. Warhol, by choosing Marilyn shortly after her passing, touches on the theme of the transience of life and the immortalization of celebrities in consumer culture. Thus, the work questions the true value of fame by showing that, although the actress has passed away, her image will continue to be repeated and consumed over and over again.
The flexible LED tube is safe and environmentally friendly, too! Set the light to the time of day with adjustable brightness.

(after) Andy Warhol
Since 1960 American artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987) has been considered one of the most well known and controversial artists in American Pop Art, having becoming synonymous with Pop Art itself. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertising that flourished by the 1960s, and span a variety of media, including painting, silkscreening, photography, film and sculpture. Warhol used common images of popular media that were executed with hardline realism, and were considered new and outrageous. Andy Warhol is considered to be the #1 top performing artists on the art market today, comprising a sizable chunk of the contemporary art market. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Warhol initially pursued a successful career as a commercial illustrator. After exhibiting his work in several galleries in the late 1950s, he began to receive recognition as an influential and controversial artist. His New York studio, The Factory, became a well-known gathering place that brought together distinguished intellectuals, drag queens, playwrights, Bohemian street people, Hollywood celebrities, and wealthy patrons. He promoted a collection of personalities known as Warhol Superstars, and is credited with coining the widely used expression "15 minutes of fame."
