About the Item

Andy Warhol (after) Silver Marilyn, 1990s Handmade Carpet 150 × 150 cm (59.1 × 59.1 in) Certificate of authenticity on label Edition of 20 In excellent condition Published by Modern Master Tapestries, NY The artwork is offered unframed As a golden legend of Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe held particular fascination for Andy Warhol. Her suicide on August 5, 1962 struck a personal chord and precipitated a commemorative series that isolated her beautiful and henceforth elusive visage against variously colored backdrops. In the increasingly secular 1960s, Warhol was quick to recognize that movie stars had replaced the religious figures of his childhood, as the idols which the population at large chose to worship. Andy Wahrol worked with tapestry in his life as works were presented by Charles Slatkin Galleries in 1968 as part of the American Tapestries exhibition, in which the gallery invited a group of contemporary artists to submit designs for tapestries. Warhol gave Marilyn design, which was hand woven into a woollen tapestry for the exhibition. This tapestry of Silver Marylin follows this tradition and it is particularly compelling because its pared-down palette of on the tone of silver refers not only to Warhol's earlier creations, as well as his interest in black and white cinematography, but also to the broader tradition of radical experiments in the history of abstraction. “I just see Monroe as just another person. As for whether it's symbolical to paint Monroe in such violent colors: it's beauty, and she's beautiful and if something's beautiful it's pretty colors, that's all.„ —Andy Warhol

Flowers, (After) Andy Warhol -Pop Art, Tapestry, Edition, Contemporary, Design
By Andy Warhol
Located in Zug, CH
(After) Andy Warhol Flowers, 1968 Hand Woven Wool Tapestry 183 x 183 cm (72 x 72 in) Edition of 20 With the knotted name ‘ANDY WARHOL’ lower right and the embroidered annotation ‘WARHOL ©’ on the reverse Published by Modern Master Tapestries, NY Throughout art history, the flower and its symbolism have been a subject matter for many renowned artists. Andy Warhol explored the qualities of the flower image through his Pop Art prism in the Flower series of 1964, thus creating cartoon-like symbols that would be instantly recognized. The 1964 Flower series became one of his most iconic and successful works. Based on a discovered photograph of hibiscus blossoms, Warhol drenched the flowers’ floppy shapes with a variation of vibrant colors, transforming them into psychedelic indoor décor. Playing with traditional art historical themes, Andy Warhol gave a particular twist to this historically accepted symbol of life. The electric colors of his flowers, drawn from a darker and rich undergrowth background might be the indicator of an extreme vision of life, a life lived on the edge. Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an American artist, a leading figure of the Pop Art movement. Using a variety of media materials from photographs up to computer-generated art, Warhol's works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity, culture and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s. Emerging from the poverty and obscurity of an Eastern European immigrant family in Pittsburgh, Warhol became a charismatic magnet for bohemian New York. In 1960, he began to produce his first canvases depicting Popeye and Dick Tracy. After Marilyn Monroe’s death in August 1962, he started working from snapshots of the star’s already legendary face, which had been widely distributed by the world’s press. His choice of subjects clearly relates to an obsession with demise – his Marilyns, his Ten Lizies (created when the actress Elizabeth Taylor was seriously ill), and also his Elvis. Part of the “Death and Disaster” series, Andy Warhol´s...

Andy Warhol Rug Marilyn Monroe Design
Located in Ferrara, IT
This Andy Warhol-inspired carpet featuring the iconic image of Marilyn Monroe is a vibrant and distinctive piece that captures the essence of Pop Art. Measuring 88 × 71 cm (2' 10" × 2' 3"), this carpet is a small but impactful representation of one of the most famous artworks of the 20th century, reinterpreted in an artistic rug. The carpet prominently features Marilyn Monroe's face, rendered in a style that is immediately recognizable as inspired by Andy Warhol’s famous screen prints. The portrait is characterized by bold, contrasting colors: Marilyn's blonde hair is depicted in bright yellow against a vivid orange background, with her facial features highlighted in shades of pink, blue, and red. The design is minimalist yet powerful, with the use of color and form echoing Warhol’s original work that commented on celebrity culture and mass media. This carpet's design serves as both a decorative piece and a statement of modern art, making it a perfect addition to any contemporary or pop-culture-inspired space. The compact size allows it to be used in a variety of settings, whether as a centerpiece on the floor, a wall hanging, or even as a unique conversation piece in a gallery-like setting. The carpet is crafted with attention to detail, ensuring that the bold lines and vivid colors remain sharp and true to the original artwork. The use of high-quality materials ensures that the carpet not only captures the aesthetic of Warhol’s work but also offers durability and longevity. The pile is soft, making it a tactile as well as a visual experience. In terms of condition, the carpet is in a very good condition, with no visible signs of wear or fading. The colors remain bright, and the image is well-preserved, suggesting that it has been carefully maintained. This pristine condition adds to its value, particularly for collectors who are interested in Pop Art or Warhol-inspired pieces. Andy Warhol’s work, particularly his portraits of Marilyn Monroe, is emblematic of the Pop Art movement, which emerged in the 1950s and 1960s. Warhol’s focus on celebrities, consumer goods, and the intersection of art and mass production challenged traditional notions of art and culture. His portraits of Marilyn Monroe, produced shortly after her death in 1962, are among his most famous works, symbolizing both the allure and the tragic aspects of celebrity life. This carpet is a modern reinterpretation of that iconic image, translating Warhol’s screen print...
