About the Item
A really mind blowing video sculpture which will challenge your sense of perception and make you think you have caught a real fairy in a jar. The fairy is floating in a jar wiping her wings, touching the glass every two minutes with her wound with a cute "ting ting" sound and sparkles. Because there is no fairy cruelty here every eight minutes she gets to be set free and disappears in dust to reappear just a few seconds later.
Davy and Kristin McGuire make whimsical fantasy worlds and bring the creatures and beings that inhabit these worlds to life. With a background in theatre and dance, their work always involves stories and in this case the story underlying these installations is of the absent person who traps beautiful creatures in jars. Fascinated by humanity's obsession with trying to capture, appropriate and preserve the elusive qualities of beauty and freedom, they combine the tangibility of a domestic jam jar with the ephemoral illusion of projection. In each one of these jars is an image of Kristin that has been filmed and captured by Davy.
