Greeting Letters by one of the biggest French fashion illustrator to the Countess and patron of art, with kind request for meetings at the atelier, or invitations to his exhibitions. Adrien Désirée Etienne (France, Lorraine, 1885 -1961). Generally called Drian, Adrien Désirée Etienne is still today known as a fashion illustrator of magazines like Les Feuillets d’Art in 1920, the Illustration, Harper’s Bazaar, Les Costumes Parisiens or the Gazette du Bon Ton. He was one of the closest friend of the French couturier Paul Poiret and the movie director Sacha Guitry. From 1907, he began his collaborationfor the magazine Femina. In 1912, he took part in Paul Poiret’s creations as a fashion designer: he was going to become one of the best fashion designer and illustrator of the 20th century. He exhibited at the Gallery Levesque in Paris, during the exhibition “Les Collaborateurs de la Gazette du Bon Ton”. He illustrated novels and tales, created showcases in the US, made the decoration of the office of Molyneux and frescoes for Elsie de Wolfe, without forgetting the oil technique. He did a set of paintings on glass that was exhibited at the Parisian Gallery Charpentier in 1950. This technique requires a wonderful precision, because the painter realizes his work directly on glass Countess Anna Laetitia Pecci (Rome, 1885 - Marlia, 1971) Better known as Mimì Pecci-Blunt , the Italian noblewoman was an art collector, patron and nephew of Pope Leo XIII. Extremely volcanic, she was very active in the cultural field, opening numerous lounges, galleries and theaters. In 1919 she married Cecil Blumenthal, later changed to Blunt, a wealthy Jewish banker from New York, heir to an important collection of nineteenth-century French painting. His Parisian and Roman salons was frequented by artists and intellectuals of the caliber of Salvador Dalì, Paul Valery, Poulenc, Paul Claudel.

  • Map of Palestine or Judea, Illustrating the History of the New Testament
    By Rev. Nathan B. Rogers

Pen and ink on paper, laid down on canvas, mounted to wooden scroll bars Signed and dated lower right: “Drawn by N. B. Rogers August. 1843” Inscribed with an ownership inscription on the verso: Rev. E. D. Daniels, Palmer, Mass. Provenance: Rev. Eugene Davidson Daniels, Palmer, Massachusetts, 1871 This extraordinary manuscript map is a rare survivor of the devotional and educational culture of New England in the first half of the nineteenth century. Although at first glance resembling a large-scale engraving or printed publication, this precisely rendered wall map was entirely drawn by hand, the product of meticulous research by a minister working in isolation in rural Maine. The map shows New Testament era cities, towns, tribal areas, and political borders as well as physical features such as rivers, lakes, mountains, and hills (indicated by half-tone cross-hatching). On to this geographically accurate rendering of the Holy Land, Rogers has located and inscribed significant locales mentioned in the Gospels and has annotated these places with relevant citations from the Bible. He further records these by plotting the travels of Jesus on what resemble a series of trails across the Holy Land. Each is distinguished by a different pattern of dots and dashes – correlated to an explanatory table at the lower right. From this we know that these lines document the “Flight into Egypt and return,” “Travels of Christ from Nazareth to Jerusalem and return,” “Travels from the commencement of his Ministry to the first Passover,” “Travels from the first and the second Passover,” “Travels from Jerusalem to Galilee after the 2nd Passover,” and “Travels from the third Passover to the Crucifixion.” An inset map of “Jerusalem...
