Gilles Demarteau
Pair of Portraits, Two Ladies, Head of a Young Woman, Demarteau, French, Rococco

About the Item

Crayon style colouring after Francois-Andre Vincent. The sheets are a typical example of the highly developed colour printing technique used by Gilles Demarteau and his pupil and nephew Gilles Antoine le Jeune. The endeavour was to imitate a coloured chalk drawing as deceptively real as possible. Also printed is the blue passe-partout that frames the portrait.
