Evelyn Ackerman (1924–2012) was a pivotal figure in California mid-century modernism, renowned for her work in mosaics, tapestries, ceramics, and wood carvings. Born in Detroit, she studied art and art history at the University of Michigan and Wayne State University, where she met her husband and lifelong collaborator, Jerome "Jerry" Ackerman. In 1952, the couple moved to Los Angeles, immersing themselves in the burgeoning modern design movement. In 1953, the Ackermans founded ERA Industries, through which they produced a diverse array of decorative art pieces.Evelyn's designs often drew inspiration from folk art, featuring vibrant depictions of animals, children, and mythical figures. Her work is characterized by a blend of warmth, texture, and colorful abstraction, reflecting the optimistic spirit of the era
