This is an Happy New Year Autograph Letter Signed and Dated by Giuseppe Ungaretti (Alessandria of Egypt, 1888- Milan 1970) to the Countess and patron of arts Anna Laetitia Pecci-Blunt. Rome, December 25th, - XIII (1934) One page, single-sided. In 8°. In Italian. On ivory colored paper and on watermarked paper "Ave Caesar Imperator". In excellent conditions, except for some minor signs of the time as an imperceptible foxing on the margins and the usual medial fold. Original envelope included. Signed “Ungaretti”. A unique piece to say Happy Christmas and Happy New Year, with the precious signature of the hermetic poet, Giuseppe Ungaretti! Background: Between 1931 and 1934 Giuseppe Ungaretti made numerous trips to Egypt, Holland, Corsica and various regions of Italy as a special correspondet of the "Gazzetta del Popolo" of Turin, as an essayist he also held a lecture tour in various European countries. From 1933 he collaborates with the most prestigious Italian periodicals, as well as being editor of "Commerce" and co-editor of "Mesures", leading magazines of European culture. Having become one of the best known and most prestigious Italian intellectuals, his figure constitutes an essential point of reference for the new poetry, which in this decade will give life to the definition of a hermetic poettry. It is missing almost one year to the fundation of La Cometa Gallery, opened by by the Italian poet Libero de Libero and the Countess Pecci-Blunt. An internationl world in Rome, in which artists and intellectuals like Afro, Mirko, Cagli Mafai, Guttuso and Capogrossi, Severini, Martini, Janni, Melli, Ziveri, Pirandello, Ungaretti, Savinio graviteted. At the sime time the Countess, best-known as "Mimì" organised literary presentations by writers like Cecchi, Moravia, Montale, Ungaretti, lectures by Valéry and Mauriac; music night by Stravinskij, Petrassi, Milhaud, Honegger, Poulenc, Auric.
