About the Item

2012 - Unique piece Techniques: Stoneware chests, modelled, engraved, glazed, cabochon - Layered glazes - Wax reserves - Brush decorations - Glazes from my mineral research - Reductive firing at 1280°. Signed below JC Canonne and stamped on the front panel The expertise of Jean-Claude Canonne is unique and it is registered as part of the national heritage by the French Ministry of Culture. This chest is a very long time of work of preparing, both for the design and creation of the shape but especially for the composition of the enamels, because all of these enamels composition is fired in only one shot. It's a very hard work to success these kind of work. Jean-Claude Canonne is otherwise recognised by the ceramics profession for his exceptional mastery of glazes. The "Le Pin" chest reveals an abundant plant world, where engraved imprints evoke coniferous forests and stylized berries. These details, enhanced by superimposed glazes, catch the light and create a texture that is both complex and organic. Each step, from engraving to reductive firing, bears witness to meticulous attention to detail: wax reserves allow the enamels to be juxtaposed as in a cloisonné painting. The central yet discreet cabochon, in relief, adds a tactile dimension that invites us to approach, to open the chest, in a subtle tension where the secret, almost unveiled, seems within reach. The artist's signature on the side and underneath confirms the uniqueness of this piece. Jean-Claude Canonne's chests evoke a world where ceramics meet memory and intimacy. Each piece, designed with great technical mastery, is conceived as a precious shelter, ready to house secrets, objets d'art or timeless souvenirs. Inspired by the shapes of sacred shrines, these chests symbolize the link between earth and sky, incarnation and elevation. Each tells a story, magnified by complex processes and a rich palette of textures and colors.
