The expertise of Jean-Claude Canonne is unique and it is registered as part of the national heritage by the French Ministry of Culture.
This chest is a very long time of work of preparing, both for the design and creation of the shape but especially for the composition of the enamels, because all of these enamels composition is fired in only one shot. It's a very hard work to success these kind of work. Jean-Claude Canonne is otherwise recognised by the ceramics profession for his exceptional mastery of glazes.
The "Vibrations" chest conveys a vibrant energy and perpetual motion through its engraved lines and shimmering colors. Superimposed enamels, applied with a pear or brush, create contrasting touches that unite in oceanic harmony. The lid, adorned with square gold leaf, brings a precious light, elevating the marine hues to liquid skies. This chest embodies the perfect balance between tradition and innovation, with every detail testifying to the artist's in-depth research into the fusion of minerals.
Jean-Claude Canonne's chests evoke a world where ceramics meet memory and intimacy. Each piece, designed with great technical mastery, is conceived as a precious shelter, ready to house secrets, objets d'art or timeless souvenirs. Inspired by the shapes of sacred shrines, these chests symbolize the link between earth and sky, incarnation and elevation. Each tells a story, magnified by complex processes and a rich palette of textures and colors.
Graduated in 1969 from the National School of Applied Arts for Industry (ENSAA), he followed a versatile training: sculpture, modeling, fresco, ceramics, interior architecture, goldsmithing, etc.; as well as courses on color, drawing, composition, technologies, and Art history. From 1974 to 1977 – curious to learn and master the technique and aesthetic power of ceramics, he practiced decoration: low- and high-fire earthenware, stoneware and porcelain, cloisonné enamels, lusters and gold, etc., under Jean Hury - Auguste Renoir Technical High School, Paris. From 1978 to 1981 – he trained in calligraphy at the Eastern Painting Academy (Cernuschi Museum) with Master UNG NO LEE. From 1982 to 1983 : Dupéré School, he perfected skills in ceramic molding, model design, molds, casting and statuary stamping techniques, with André Féard. The training included courses in physical chemistry, geology, and mineralogy. From 1983 to 1994, he was a ceramics teacher at CREAR - Center for Artistic Training, near Chantilly, training many ceramists who are now established throughout France and abroad. Starting in 1984, he worked with Daniel de Montmollin's approach on 'The Practice of Stoneware Glazes,' developing it and conducting extensive research on glazes. The expertise of Jean-Claude Canonne is unique and it is registered as part of the national heritage by the French Ministry of Culture. In 1996 Jean-Claude Canonne opened his workshop and devoted himself to his own creations on a wide variety of themes: - Large-format trunks for intimate shelter; decorative furniture boxes, utility boxes for secrets
- Imaginary boats, in stoneware and porcelain, inspired by the shapes created by water and man, tools of passage from one shore to the other.
- Paintings, a synthesis of his long training, including engraving, enamel decorations, layering
- Landscape mountains, both real and abstract, sometimes concealing an imaginary "view": trees, skies, water reflections, tiny characters...
