Swallowtail, Oil Painting

2025

About the Item

Artist Comments
With its signature yellow wings edged in black and touched with hints of coral and sky blue, a swallowtail butterfly appears suspended mid-air. Its symmetry and elegance are gracefully rendered. Artist Karen Barton turns a fleeting moment in nature into a lasting expression of joy and wonder.

About the Artist
Inspired by the beauty and intricate details of nature, artist Karen Barton captures the essence of what she observes in the world around her, especially in her own backyard. "I am particularly drawn to the delicate beauty of hummingbirds and butterflies," says Karen. Her paintings are created through a blend of observation, imagination, photography, and research. Using both brushwork and a palette knife, she manipulates the paint to create contrasting colors and textures. From bold expressions to subtle color nuances and intricate details, her work is represented in galleries across the United States. When she's not painting, Karen enjoys tending to her flower garden and baking artisanal breads.
