About the Item
Karl Griesbaum Animated Singing Bird Box & Timepiece. An exceptional gilt brass case with blue and white enamel panels, the sides and back have hand painted round scenic panels; the top of the case has an enameled landscape scene with a couple on the oval lid, to the right two sheep and a house in the distance and a dog is standing in the grass left.
A small lever on the face, to the right of the clock lifts the hinged lid on the top and exposes the animated feathered bird which flaps its wings and swivels back and forth while whistling a tune the bottom of the case also has a hidden hinged compartment where the key and instructions can be stored.
The case front has a square brass dial signed "Angelus" with applied gilt brass hour numbers and brass bezel; has a spring driven 8 day time only Swiss movement which winds, sets and runs. Case is in excellent condition with no losses to the enamel, time and animated mechanism are working order.
