"For me, designing means organizing, relating things so that they are self-evident and logical, self-explanatory. Designing is part of my life; it begins with preparing breakfast. Handwork and mental work belong together. Artists have always been important to me as a stimulus; artists have taught me that the process is essential. Trained as a carpenter, it was personal encounters and intensive engagement with artists, especially Jerry Zeniuk, Adrian Schiess, Norbert Prangenberg, the Düsseldorf Academy, and the legacy of Joseph Beuys, that shaped me. "I wanted to create a light table that can be used as a polyvalent desk. An elegant solution for this multifunctionality is to make tabletop and feet independent. Moreover, this allows me to give the trestles a sculptural quality. The tabletop is made of pearwood boards glued together, supported by two beams that are fixed permanently with long dovetails. The beams allow the tabletop to breathe freely."
Biography:
After a short career as an actor and dancer in Jan Fabre’s theatre piece The Power of Theatrical Madness, he decided to pursue a career in furniture making. He studied cabinetmaking at Les Arts et Metiers in Brussels and trained under master cabinet maker Ralf Hillenbrand, who taught him all the technical aspects of the craft. After three years, he began working as an independent cabinet maker and designer, a career that spanned 25 years. In 2003, he organized several auction sales of prototypes by fellow designers, in collaboration with the auction house Pierre Bergé in Brussels. In 2006, he founded D&A Lab, a company that produced limited series of functional design objects, conceived by contemporary artists such as Jonathan Monk, Pierre Bismuth, Ann Veronica Janssens...
