Bodiam Castle, Sussex, August 25th 1935 Autograph Greeting Postcard Signed. Weimar, Germany, August 8th 1936 Autograph Letter Signed. Rome, April 29th 1940. One page,double-sided, on letterhead paper "Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia". Letter of Apology, the Italian art critic receives the volume concerning Villa Reale in Marlia (one of the Countess residences) too late to be usefull for the Praz's essay Gusto Neoclassico, ready to be printed by Sansoni Ed in 1940. From different places, the Italian scholar writes some letters and postcards to the Countess Pecci Blunt. there is a frequent exchange of books, info, and hospitalities, usefull for the Praz's essays. The background: Mario Praz has had a profound impact not only on history and English literature, but also on writings about interior design and decoration. In 1932 he was professor of Italian literature at the University of Manchester. In 1930 the fundamental work The flesh, death and the devil in romantic literature was published: translated in English in 1933 it will help to extend his fame in Great Britain and the United States, provoking instead strong adverse reactions in Italy, including that by Benedetto Croce. It was one of the first interdisciplinary studies in the world that also included the history of art in comparison with the evolution of literature, music and thought. From 1934 to 1966 Mario Praz was professor of English language and literature at the University of Rome, as a letter demonstrates. In 1935 he received the British Academy gold medal for studies on the relationship between English and Italian literature. Mario Praz (Rome, 1896- 1982) Italian-born critic of art and literature, and scholar of English literature, Mario Praz is best-known as author of The Romantic Agony (1933), a comprehensive survey of the decadent, erotic and morbid themes of the European authors of the late 18th and 19th centuries. Countess Anna Laetitia Pecci (Rome, 1885 - Marlia, 1971) Better known as Mimì , the Italian noblewoman was an art collector, patron and nephew of Pope Leo XIII. Extremely volcanic, she was very active in the cultural field, opening numerous lounges, galleries and theaters. In 1919 she married Cecil Blumenthal, later changed to Blunt, a wealthy Jewish banker from New York, heir to an important collection of nineteenth-century French painting. His Parisian and Roman salons was frequented by artists and intellectuals of the caliber of Alberto Moravia, Mario Praz, Salvador Dalì, Paul Valery, Poulenc, Paul Claudel.

During this period, Bontempelli was close to the Fascism, and as a member of this political movement and for literary honors he gained the chair for the Royal academy of Italy. He served as a secretary of the fascist writers' union and spent time abroad lecturing on Italian culture. promoting Italian Culture was the common mission of the Countess Pecci-Blunt and Bontempelli. However, in 1938 he was kicked out of the Fascist party, drifting towards Communism. Massimo Bontempelli (1878 - 1960) Italian poet, playwright, novelist and composer, Massimo Bontempelli was influential in developing and promoting the literary style known as Magical Realism.
