Mark Lancaster was born Christopher Ronald Mark Lancaster, but early in life he decided that "Mark" was his favorite of the three names. Educated at Holme Valley Grammar School, 1949–52, and Bootham School, York, from 1952 to 55, after which he worked in a family textile business and studied textile technology for six years, painting in his own time, before going to King's College, Newcastle in 1961 to study Fine Art. From 1961 to 1965 Mark Lancaster studied under Richard Hamilton at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, where he also taught from 1965–66, and then at the Bath Academy of Art, Corsham, Wiltshire, 1966–68, while living in London. He first visited New York City in 1964, where he worked briefly as an assistant to Andy Warhol, appeared in several Warhol movies, and met Jasper Johns, Ray Johnson, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella, James Rosenquist, Larry Rivers, Frank O'Hara, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Norman Mailer and many others. In New York he photographed extensively, and started a series of paintings related to the imagery of the Howard Johnson's restaurants, then ubiquitous, bringing back to England information and ideas, and giving a "New York" lecture and slide show with music that influenced artist friends at Newcastle, such as Bryan Ferry, Stephen Buckley, Nicholas deVille, Tim Head and Keith Milow.
His first one-person exhibition was at the Rowan Gallery, London, in November 1965, where he had many subsequent shows, as well as at the Betty Parsons Gallery, New York, in 1972 and 1974. In 1974 his "Paintings Cambridge/New York" was organized by Richard Francis, at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. His work was included in many international exhibitions organized by The British Council, including the Paris Biennale and "British Painting and Sculpture 1940 to 1970" at The National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, 1970. He made a series of prints with Kelpra Studios Tate) and Editions Alecto in London, and in New York at Simca Studios which were exhibited at Multiples gallery, New York.
Invited to be the first Artist in Residence at King's College, Cambridge from 1968 to 1970, he became friends with E.M. Forster, Dadie Rylands and other Bloomsbury survivors including Duncan Grant, whose decorations in King's for Maynard Keynes he had restored, in rooms then occupied by Bernard Williams. His paintings refer to the ambiance of Cambridge, the architecture of King's, and bear the mark of American Modernist art as well as references to "pop" imagery, and his own photography.
In 1985 he temporarily returned to England, to Sandgate, Kent. In 1987, following the sudden death of Andy Warhol on 22 February, he made in one year close to 200 small paintings, collectively titled Post-Warhol Souvenirs, which all featured references to Warhol's "Marilyn" image. They were exhibited at the Mayor Rowan Gallery in London in 1988, opening on 22 February 1988, the first anniversary of Warhol's death. Marco Livingstone wrote an article on them for the magazine Art & Design, and they were featured in his book Pop Art, A Continuing History. Several of these paintings are in the collection of the Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, and the Berardo Foundation, Portugal.

Ann Parkin’s current work is an exploration of new possibilities in technique and materials, as well as the expression of a new imagery for art jewelry.
Historically, art and particularly craft, have been vehicles for the symbols, images and visual metaphors of society’s current view of its world and the “nature” of which it finds itself a part. Discoveries and techniques at the leading edge of science have given us astounding views of new levels of nature and reality and have provided opportunities for the development of a new set of imagery and symbols for our time. Parkin’s work has been inspired by the vast visual potential of such scientific areas as electron microscopy, nuclear imaging, “Chaos” physics, and particularly subatomic particle physics.
The graphic imagery of Parkin’s current work is not, in the traditional sense, abstract but rather is a representational view of nature that we are among the first generations to see. The images of the Particle Shower series are based upon the visual records of subatomic particle physics, which show the tracks left by subatomic particles as they pass through the bubble and cloud chambers once used by nuclear physicists.
Parkin reflects that, “It has been said that Science is the Religion of the modern age. If that is even in part true, then it points the way to an exciting new approach to ornamentation and imagery that goes beyond the commonly observable surface reality to re-establish the fundamental role of art/craft - the articulation and expression of underlying patterns of the natural order as an integral aspect of our created personal environment.”
Born in Toronto, Canada in 1956, Ann Parkin received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from New York University in 1978 and a Gemological Diploma from the Gemological Association of Great Britain in 1987. She studied metalwork, jewelry and enameling at the 92nd Street Y in New York City with renowned jewelry artists Robert Ebendorf, Rebekah Laskin, Charles Lewton-Brain and John Cogswell.

This extraordinary manuscript map is a rare survivor of the devotional and educational culture of New England in the first half of the nineteenth century. Although at first glance resembling a large-scale engraving or printed publication, this precisely rendered wall map was entirely drawn by hand, the product of meticulous research by a minister working in isolation in rural Maine. The map shows New Testament era cities, towns, tribal areas, and political borders as well as physical features such as rivers, lakes, mountains, and hills (indicated by half-tone cross-hatching). On to this geographically accurate rendering of the Holy Land, Rogers has located and inscribed significant locales mentioned in the Gospels and has annotated these places with relevant citations from the Bible. He further records these by plotting the travels of Jesus on what resemble a series of trails across the Holy Land. Each is distinguished by a different pattern of dots and dashes – correlated to an explanatory table at the lower right. From this we know that these lines document the “Flight into Egypt and return,” “Travels of Christ from Nazareth to Jerusalem and return,” “Travels from the commencement of his Ministry to the first Passover,” “Travels from the first and the second Passover,” “Travels from Jerusalem to Galilee after the 2nd Passover,” and “Travels from the third Passover to the Crucifixion.”
