This work, titled "The Milk Rivers" is a tryptic of 135x70 cm works and it's a jacquard weaving from cotton and recycled plastic thread Eco Nat.
Artist Monika Zaltauskaite Grasiene Zalte has discovered unique ways to express her artistic flair. From a technological point of view and her cross over on a number of conceptual planes. Monika weaves (using computerized jacquard loom). Thus, simplicity and surprise / technology is a playing field for the artist. However, this is only the tangible side of her works. The attractiveness of her creations lays in her ability to speak a controversial language and make unexpected juxtapositions between simple techniques and everyday objects. In her latest projects, Monika has been exploring reflections on different images of cloth in art history. Her latest works are dominated by rich draperies woven using a computer program and manipulated photographs taken by the artist herself documenting the folds of luxurious fabrics in (wooden, marble and metal) sculptures.
