Séverine de La Chapelle
UNITY IN MOTION I - Bas relief on paper

2024

About the Item

One of a kind Sculpted Paper or Bas Relief Séverine de La Chapelle's artistic inspiration reflects her temperament—joyful, spontaneous, and infused with positive energy. Through her paper sculptures, she extends this essence, allowing an internal dialogue to take shape before unfolding on the surface. Her technique, reminiscent of bas-relief carving, reveals a fluid and expressive spontaneity, where each gesture is guided by intuition and a pursuit of precision. Deeply influenced by the maritime world, its currents, energy, and serenity, her work also draws from her years in Asia, where she embraced the Zen philosophy and the balance of Yin and Yang. This interplay of light and shadow, fullness and emptiness, creates a visual harmony that radiates a positive energy. She finds a deep resonance in the Korean Dansaekhwa movement, where the repetition of gestures transforms each piece into a meditative journey. Working exclusively with Arches 640g/m², 100% cotton paper, her compositions embody a refined balance of movement, silence, and light.
