Toni Ettenheim
Handwoven pillow with brown, white, orange and pink stripes and fringe

ca. 1986

About the Item

Toni Ettenheim (1926–2003) was a Milwaukee based Jewish textile artist, and her tapestries hang in numerous banks and buildings in the Midwest. This pillow is an excellent example of her work on a smaller, functional scale, but that mirrors the artistic goals of her large-scale work. The heavy pillow is woven out of a variety of textural wool yarns, creating a broken striped pattern of white against a dark brown ground and with a single stripe of orange and pink. On either of the short sides of the pillow are long fringes that cascade and drape. 16 x 26 x 8.5 inches, pillow body with 9-inch fringe on each short edge Signed with monogram TE woven into pillow, lower right Overall good condition; some pulling to woven strands and loose fibers
