About the Item

Living from Writing is the main content of this Autograph Letter Signed by Eugenio Galvano to Mino Maccari. Tourin, June 20th 1949. In Italian. One page, double-sided. On letterhead paper "Gazzetta del Popolo". Excellent conditon. This is a confidential letter by the Italian journalist of "Gazzetta del Popolo", Eugenio Galvano to his colleague and satiric illustrator of "Il Selvaggio", Mino Maccari, revealing his satisfaction and his sacrifices living from his writings. "Faccio il redattore della Gazzetta del Popolo per guadagnarmi la vita; me la guadagno, e presto avrò un po' di mancia. I Tempi del Selvaggio sono passati. Tu hai seguitato a divertirti". At the end of the letter, galvani demands if Maccari knows somethings about the psychoanalist painters. Only a year before the official career recognition, awarded in 1950 with the Saint-Vincent prize for journalism, Eugeno Galvani wrote this confidential letter and a friendly outburst to the talented artist, M. Maccari. Mino Maccari (Siena, 1898 – Rome, 1989) was a popular Italian painter and engraver. In 1959, he became the director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome; in 1963, he won Antonio Feltrinelli's prize for painting and became president of the San Luca Academy. He realized many lithographs and etchings of satirical and political subject matters for the Italian review "Il Selvaggio". He was also famous for erotic and sexual drawings. He has worked for many years at Il Mondo.
