Valentine Penrose (1898 – 1978); she was a French surrealist poet, author, and collagist. Valentine Penrose first encountered surrealism in the late 1920s. Penrose was one of the first of four women to become involved in the surrealist movement. Penrose was involved in the publication of Andre Breton's inaugural issue of La Révolution surréaliste; she was one of eight other women who were involved with the journal. Her first publication in the journal was a response to the 1929 Inquiry on love in La Révolution surréaliste no. 12. Valentine Penrose wrote surrealist poetry, although she is perhaps best known for her biography of the serial killer Elizabeth Báthory (1560-1614). Her poetry reflects her experience of automatic writing, collage and painting techniques such as Max Ernst’s frottage and Wolfgang Paalen’s fumage. Pablo Picasso (Malaga, 1881 – Moujins, 1973) too. He was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet, and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France. As one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for the foundation the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and the wide variety of styles that he has helped to develop and explore. Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Marcel Duchamp are considered the three artists who most defined the revolutionary developments of plastic arts in the first decades of the 20th century. Picasso demonstrated an extraordinary artistic talent in his early years, painting figuratively throughout his childhood and adolescence. Then his style changed as he experimented with different theories, techniques, and ideas. His work is often categorized into periods. The periods of his oeuvre are: the Blue Period (1901–1904), the Pink Period (1904–1906), the African-influenced Period (1907–1909), Analytic Cubism (1909–1912), and Synthetic Cubism (1912–1919). Exceptionally prolific over the entire course of his long life, Picasso achieved universal fame and immense fortune for his revolutionary artistic accomplishments in 20th-century art.

Der Spiesser-Spiegel is a modern rare book engraved by George Grosz (Berlin, 1823 - 1959, Berlin) in 1925. Original First Edition. Published by Carl Reissner, Dresden. Format: in 4°. The book includes 14 pages with Sixty full page reproduction of drawings. Mint conditions. George Grosz (Berlin, 1823 - 1959, Berlin). By the war’s end in 1918, Grosz had developed an unmistakable graphic style that combined a highly expressive use of line with ferocious social caricature. Out of his wartime experiences and his observations of chaotic postwar Germany grew a series of drawings savagely attacking militarism, war profiteering, the gulf between rich and poor, social decadence, and Nazism. In drawing collections such as The Face of the Ruling Class (1921) and Ecce Homo (1922), Grosz depicts fat Junkers, greedy capitalists, smug bourgeoisie, drinkers, and lechers—as well as hollow-faced factory labourers, the poor, and the unemployed. At this time Grosz belonged to the Berlin Dada art movement, having befriended the German Dadaist brothers Wieland Herzfelde and John Heartfield...
