Expressively painted, the glowing surface of color and light in this painting seamlessly dissolve and build upon each other to form a timeless, dreamlike image of a face suspended in a private world.
Alfonso Gosalbez was born in Alcoy, Spain and graduated from the New York Academy of Art with his MFA in 2014. He has been awarded several residencies including at the School of Visual Arts in New York (2011), Altos de Chacón, Dominican Republic (2014), and Cuttyhunk Island Residency, Maine (2017).
His work has been shown internationally including New York, the Dominican Republic and Spain.
Alfonso's style is a synthesis of the old and new, of the found and the crafted. He brings a nearly-forgotten beauty to life though his carefully rendered oil paintings employing the techniques and themes of the distant past in order to expose truths as evocative and as valid today as they were centuries ago.
