About the Item
Ananda Kesler's painting 'When Yin Meets Yang For the First Time' is an excellent example of her work, demonstrating her mastery of abstraction. Int he composition, gradient fields of gray create a tonalist atmosphere. Out of the haze, two spheres emerge, one white and one black for Yin and Yang. While on one hand the painting is clearly harkening to east Asian ideas of balance and harmony in the universe, the composition and handling of forms also recalls the work of Abstract Expressionist painters like Adolph Gottlieb and Mark Rothko. Like these artists, Kesler explores the ways in which purely abstract imagery can represent abstract concepts.

Artist Bio:
Ananda Kesler was born in Haifa, Israel. In 2002 she received her BA in Fine Art from the University of Iowa. She has continued her art education at Peralta College in California, Rajamangala College of Art in Thailand, and in Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy, and has also studied textile design with master artisans in India and Indonesia. She has exhibited her paintings in galleries throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Ananda Kesler
Ananda Kesler was born in Haifa, Israel. In 2002, she received her BA in fine arts from The University of Iowa. She has continued her art education at Peralta College in California, Rajamangala College of Art in Thailand and Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy. Kesler has also studied textile design with master artisans in India and Indonesia. She has exhibited her paintings in galleries throughout the U.S. and abroad. Kesler currently lives and paints in Fairfield, Iowa.
