  • Immaculate Sigh of Stars
    By Adam Shaw
    Located in Napa, CA
Oil on Canvas "The most important thing any art can offer is a bridge to a deeper experience of oneself. The experience of art occurs outside of time —both its making and its effect— despite the necessary parenthesis of its historic moment. This is the framework from which my efforts proceed.” New York City-born painter Adam Shaw’s vivid, intricate paintings which are woven with literary allusions and scientific formulae, provide an impressively accurate snapshot of the artist’s rich and diverse life experience. Shaw’s large paintings bring to life intensely-colored abstract shapes by layering his paintings with words...

    By Anastasia Faiella
    Located in Napa, CA
Anastasia has a rich and creative artistic background. She earned her Masters in Fine Arts from the University of California at Berkeley in 2004 and, prior to that, attended the University of Minnesota, where she earned her Bachelors degree in Art History. “ In my work as an abstract oil painter, I see my process as an intimate experience of my observed and felt connection to the natural world. My paintings, rendered as abstractions, seek to find the harmony, balance and meditative rhythm found naturally in the nature I observe. Interested in material effects, I apply paint in various thicknesses and at various speeds to allow the materials in their organic form to challenge the paint rendered by my hand. The Scale of my paintings is equal to the intimacy of my encounters with the small, mundane and overlooked details in nature. Like the layered waves of a conical seashell or the changing patterns of rain as it runs down a muddy hillside, the rhythm of time passing in my paintings is evident in the process by which they are created.” Faiella has exhibited all over the continental United States, with a focus on the Northwestern states. In 1998, she won the Julian Easels Award of Excellence for her submission to The Amsterdam Art Exhibit at the Fort Mason...

Her recent work reflects on the artist's progression to looser and freer brushwork, expressing her own emotive intuition. While these pieces are anchored in figurations, they are no representational or observational but are explorations of feeling awoken by the artist's search for inner meaning. Lilia finds her inspiration in the way nature creates endless variety without judgment on what should or should not be. The viewers are invited to step into the artwork and experience the emotion awoken in them.  A selection of paintings is available to view at the John Davies Gallery. Established for over 40 years, the John Davies Gallery has a history of handling both fine 19th & 20th Century paintings and staging contemporary exhibitions. "Lilia combines three outstanding qualities in her technique that gives her paintings such strong appeal, namely, spontaneity, innate compositional feel and a resonant, yet classic palette. The spontaneity imbues her subjects with great movement, as though an observer's momentary glimpse is arrested when walking past that bunch of flowers or that apple tree. Her compositional skill help this transitory feel, a lack of formality which she combines with a lightness of touch that is so arresting, wonderful in its expressive gestural mark-making. Then, her palette - luxurious, true, generous and positively infectious. I find her paintings powerfully evocative of turn of the 19th to 20th Century Impressionist works...
