Andrea Bonfils
Andrea Bonfils - Beehives, Painting 2017

2021

About the Item

Series: Beehives Beehives, Encaustic Beeswax, Fabric, Beehives Size: 18" x 46"/ 46" x 18" Using unconventional hardware - a blow torch, iron and other heated tools - along with paper, encaustics, photography, resin and natural materials, Bonfils’ uncommon painting and photographic techniques give way to a vision that is intense, mysterious and ethereal. Most of her inspiration comes from the natural world as she captures her subject's movement, drama and complexity, whether she is glazing over photographs, manipulating lenticular 3D images or rendering subjects lost within a waxy fog. She uses all mediums in what Van Gogh called a “language of nature,” particularly in her Underwater, Wild Horses and Aspens Series. Her imagery reveals her curiosity and sense of adventure which is both compelling and seductive to the viewer. "In all of my explorations in photography, I’m primarily drawn to the wonders of nature and our humanity within; the stunning perfections and imperfections of the world. I’ve spent countless hours following majestic bands of wild horses, staring above in bird sanctuaries and submerged while exploring fluidity in underwater movement. My latest collections “Fly and Float” and “Submerged Gardens” depict a kaleidoscopic interaction between an entirely organic, botanical color palette and the magical play between reflection and refraction.” This Painting will be shipped directly from the artist's studio.
