About the Item

Angela Lane’s three-dimensional abstract canvases are organic structures that synthesize distinct elements. The core of the work is the painter’s pursuit of form. The work begins with the creation of a dimensional canvas constructed of wood. The canvas is then sewn into the proper shape to be stretched over the shaped wood constructions. Line is the only visual language employed to further shape the form. The resulting effect breaks the two-dimensional plane into geometrical constructions, thereby forsaking flatness to make a volumetric form. The work implores the viewer to look carefully and appreciate the experience of seeing. Lane’s pieces are a fusion of organic, geometric sculpture, illusion and physical form forced together into an original choreography. The viewer experiences the concrete nature of the constructed dimensional form and the optical illusions within. You are invited to participate in the energy and life of the forms. Angela Lane’s work is in both private and public collections including the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Bank of Montreal Corporate Collection. In 2021 she was selected to participate in the London Art Biennial and was the Maryland Institute College of Art’s nominee for the prestigious Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant.

  • Nocturnal Parts - abstract geometric contemporary modern painting relief
    Located in Doetinchem, NL
Nocturnal Parts is a unique one-of-a-kind contemporary modern painting relief by Dutch artist Sander Martijn Jonker. It is a relief consisting of two open spherical parts with an intriguing matte black finish, perhaps a bit mysterious but very beautifully made. It can be hanged in two different ways, with the opening between the two spherical elements either facing away or facing the observer. Depending where the light comes from one might decide for the one or the other hanging method. Sander Martijn Jonker (1977, Netherlands) graduated from the St. Joost School of Art & Design in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. He primarily makes three-dimensional reliefs that play with the tension between abstraction and representation, surface and space. Light, shadow and their elusive ever-changing properties play an important role. Although the resulting works are abstract, he uses everyday reality as a starting and/or reference point. His work is created through forms of manipulation, distortion, repetition and simplification. Some works arise from the repetition of a simple movement or form, others are made by exploring how far he can go with the deformation and manipulation of the material, after which he captures and preserves the shape. He experiences daily life as uncontrollable and at times confusing. In order to cope with that, he is always looking for patterns and has gradually developed various rituals and ways of control, hoping they can offer him certainty and reassurance. His work and person are inextricably connected. He makes the things he makes because he doesn’t have a choice. He is trying to get a grip...
