There are too few painters today still attuned to the possibilities of paint on canvas and willing to listen as the painting reveals itself. Beverly Brodsky is one of those. In 1960, Brodsky began to study with the artist Ad Reinhardt at Brooklyn College. On the first day, Reinhardt simply told her to paint a large canvas. Returning a few hours later, Reinhardt took a look at the canvas on the easel and asker her: "Who taught you how to paint?" Before she could answer, he said: "You must have known all along."
