About the Item

acrylic on canvas The surfaces of Jimi Gleason’s paintings have always responded to both the light and space of the environment they are in. The silver deposit paintings began in 2008 as a mutation of his earlier soft, glowing, iridescent works. Although the silver deposit works are easily understood as paintings, they are difficult to imagine how they are created, as there is no evidence of traditional methods. The artist pours layers of molten silver across acrylic-coated canvas and etches the metal with acid, creating formations that recall geologic and human activity. The topography and reflective property of the material play with color and light according to the work’s surroundings and the viewer’s perspective; nuances of texture, color, and tone emerge and shift through that interaction. His work in included in the public collections of Armand Hammer Museum, Long Beach Museum of Art, Seattle Art Museum, Tucson Museum of Art, Frederick R Weisman Art Foundation in Los Angeles, Dakota Studios in New York, Sun American/Kaufman Broad Home Corporation in Los Angeles, The Voit Companies in Newport Beach, and the MGM Grand in Detroit.

"Untitled, 1975" by Claudia Sisemore, acylic on canvas, 41.5 x 50 inches, $4,800. "I have a vague idea of what I am going to paint. I read that many artists are inspired by an idea before they begin their work and plan their approach and process based on that idea or muse. Others become inspired after they have begun working and watching colors, shapes and designs form. I basically belong the second group. Usually, after painting begins in a loose, free manner, I become excited by certain colors and patterns and continue from there." -Claudia Sisemore -- Caudia Sisemore says she was teaching English when artist David Chaplin (an equally popular and influential teacher) was at Weber and initially got her into landscape painting. “Then he took me to a show at the Art Barn and Lee [Deffebach] was showing there [with Don Olsen...
