Bryan Boone
'Arrangement Impulsion 4' by Bryan Boone, Acrylic on Panel Painting

2021

About the Item

This acrylic on panel painting by Bryan Boone is the fourth in a series of balanced oppositional design. Primary colors are hues of blue, yellow, white and grey. The design is a diagonal geometric color field. "Arrangement Impulsion'' is a series of works emblematic of my style as an artist — create a concrete framework, and then explore all the possibilities within it. Within each iteration you will find the balance of two potentially oppositional components — structure and free expression; architecture and automatic art; gesture and movement and flow within defined constraints. I started to explore this concept of arrangement — and re-arrangement — as a way to affirm that a work of art does not need to be some ideal of perfection. I began to center around the idea that I could build a frame, an idea of an image, and create certain structures within which to define and redefine what could be done within that system. I felt like I was working through every iteration that was worth producing as a piece of art. Keep working, keep iterating, keep trying ideas. I’d move this element, push this line, try a different balance, and then think, “For the next painting, what did we like about the last two, what do we want to do differently? How do we want to shift the color?" -- Bryan Boone Bryan Boone is an artist and designer living and working in Kansas City. From early in life he has been captivated by architecture, construction and process.

"This is the sixth piece in the 'Unknown Steps' series where I concentrated on creating compositions constructed off of an obtuse angle. In this piece, that focus is the line starting in the lower right corner that reaches up and left before intersecting the blue and aqua fields and turning to intersect the horizon line of the composition. The other lines were then arranged as an extension of that core structure. Every field was composed of multiple translucent layers resulting in complex depth and visual texture." -- Bryan Boone...
