About the Item
Charles MacQueen RSW RGI (b. 1940) is a Scottish painter based in Fife. He uses mixed media and texture to create rich paintings like quilts of meaning and colour. MacQueen was born in Glasgow and studied at Glasgow School of Art during 1958-1962. Afterwards, he taught art until retiring in 1990 to devote more time to his personal creative practice. MacQueen travelled widely and was influenced by time spent in France, Italy, Morocco, and the Greek islands. MacQueen won the Glasgow Civic Art Prize in 1971 and was elected as a member of the Royal Glasgow Institute in 1983 as well as the RSW in 1984. His artworks are held within a number of public and private collections internationally.
