About the Item
"Tiled Quadrilateral," Oil on Linen, 28 x 20 Inches, is a Minimalist, elegant geometric abstraction in two shades of tan. Exquisitely crafted, there is a jaunty and witty quality to the implied movement of this work as is the case in so many of Gibbs' paintings. Consistently to be found is the artist's keen knowledge of the history of art, her love of referencing it, and a subtle sense of humor.
It is simply framed by the artist in a natural white wood strip frame that has been slightly distressed.
Gibbs has successfully absorbed the tenets of the turn of the century Suprematist artists, the Geometric Abstractionists of the 1930s and 1940s, the Minimalists of the 1960s and '70s, Josef Albers' color theory utilizing squares, etc. and has transformed all these references and information into a body of work that is at once unique and spirited, which startles our expectations and consistently creates brings fresh insights into established traditions.
The artist often incorporates actual 23 karat gold leaf into her paintings as well.
Commissions are an option, Gibbs has completed many.

Charlotte Andry Gibbs attended Newcomb College and received a BFA in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston in 1971. She has had 3 one-person exhibitions at the Beth Urdang Gallery and has been included in over 25 group shows, primarily in the New England area where the artist resides.
Most recently Gibbs had the distinct honor of being awarded First Prize in the Roddy Competition held at the Concord Center for Visual Arts in Massachusetts where she was singled out among 540 submissions by 340 various artists by Katherine French, the Director.
