Cristina Ghetti
'Folding' Geometric Abstract Black and White Acrylic Painting

2017

About the Item

‘Folding’ is a medium size abstract geometric acrylic on canvas painting created by Argentinian artist Cristina Ghetti in 2017. Featuring a black and white palette, the painting showcases a series of parallel lines that play with our eye. Alternating linear and undulating effects, the painting reveals a subtle kinetic property. Leaving us feeling mesmerized and drawn in, the painter invites us into her own world. Set inside a square format, this piece is unframed. Placed anywhere in a home, whether above a chest-of-drawers, console table or buffet, this abstract geometric acrylic on canvas painting will enliven any wall beautifully. Cristina Ghetti was born in Buenos Aires but today lives in Valencia, Spain. If one were to describe Cristina’s work, some of the words that might come to mind would be energy, linearity, aberration and color… although she frequently creates monochrome pieces. Her work typically features a series of parallel lines with a variety of aberrations that tend to focus attention while at the same time enhancing the entire piece. Whether monochromatic or with dozens of colors, Cristina’s pieces always brighten up whatever space they occupy. If geometry comes to mind when viewing Cristina’s pieces, that is no accident. She received her Bachelor and Masters in Fine Arts, from UPV, Sant Carlos Polytechnic University Valencia, Spain. She has a Masters in Visual Arts and Multimedia from Valencia Polytechnic University and expanded on the subject in her PhD thesis: “Post Medial Geometry”. Cristina’s work very much epitomizes the notion of the intersection of art and science, and the world has indeed taken notice. She interrelates geometry, color, movement and sound, using the languages developed in the conceptual territory of abstraction. Her paintings are generated first in the computer, and then translated to traditional painting, mixing and playing with media crossings. Her works can be found in galleries around the world in cities such as New York, Miami, Toronto, London, Barcelona, Bonn, and Panama City among others. • Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters) Italian Expressionist Painting on Canvas

The present work of art titled "Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters)" is part of a series of paintings that the artist composed in the 1980s and 1990s inspired by the observation of the urban reality of those years. The artist take the cue from his walks in Florence, both in the center and in the suburbs, and by the observation of billboards and posters scattered throughout the city. The mass of information, colors, messages and words were carried on the canvas with acrylic colors, ideally reconstructing the tears and overlaps of all the information and advertising contained on these huge sheets of paper that invade our cities. The geometric lines are overlaid with jagged lines, overlaps and color dripping and also the choice in the color palette, with different shades of white, gray, rose, orange red and blue helps in rendering the result of the tears and ripped paper. The result is a beautiful multicolored modern abstract canvas, both aesthetically and ethically, with many rich layers of color, texture and expression in which the artist leaves his own message. The painting is housed in a simple modern white lacquer wood frame. Andrea Spinelli...
