About the Item
Daniel Phill’s current paintings are botanical abstractions inspired by the natural world. They are a reimagining of flowers, vegetation and the landscape. He is always on the lookout for new visual stimuli that to bring to the work. The color palettes and compositions are affected by what he see from his studio windows, looking out to the nearby San Francisco Bay. His work is also influenced by repeated travels to the lush green surroundings of the Pacific Northwest, where he grew up. Observing various gardens throughout the seasons to be an important source of inspiration for the artist. He approaches his work with an open mind, curious to see what develops within the paintings in progress.
Line, texture and color are integral elements of these deliberately spontaneous paintings. As the paintings each emerge on their own timeline, the images often blend and melt into one another through broad swaths of wet-into-wet paint. Layers of translucent color contribute to the overall feeling of each piece. Fauvism, Brush Painting and Abstract Expressionism are among the several styles of art which help inform my work. Phill’s intention is to create paintings that are organic and unfolding, in a place between representation and abstraction.

- After the StormLocated in Fairfield, CTRepresented by George Billis Gallery. "I have always been a creative who thinks "outside the box". Art is easiest for me; it flows from whatever I've been thinking about, emotion, and soul and takes shape — from intrinsic importance to physical reality.… From nothingness comes something to share. My paintings are bright, colorful, and invigorating and I’ve been told and seen firsthand that they lift people’s spirits. A visitor to one of my shows commented, "Your paintings are so happy" and I responded, "that’s because I’m happy when I’m painting them". I work passionately, and intuitively and I refuse to follow others’ rules. People have told me that the colors I’ve used others don’t dare put together because they’re "not supposed to", and then when I do it, they exclaim, "it works". You can call me an "intuitive painter" or "a colorist" or "an abstract-surrealistic organic and geometric anarchist". Whatever you call me, I hope you like what you see. " – Karen KirshnerCategory

- Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters) Italian Expressionist Painting on CanvasBy Andrea SpinelliLocated in Firenze, ITThe present work of art titled "Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters)" is part of a series of paintings that the artist composed in the 1980s and 1990s inspired by the observation of the urban reality of those years. The artist take the cue from his walks in Florence, both in the center and in the suburbs, and by the observation of billboards and posters scattered throughout the city. The mass of information, colors, messages and words were carried on the canvas with acrylic colors, ideally reconstructing the tears and overlaps of all the information and advertising contained on these huge sheets of paper that invade our cities. The geometric lines are overlaid with jagged lines, overlaps and color dripping and also the choice in the color palette, with different shades of white, gray, rose, orange red and blue helps in rendering the result of the tears and ripped paper. The result is a beautiful multicolored modern abstract canvas, both aesthetically and ethically, with many rich layers of color, texture and expression in which the artist leaves his own message. The painting is housed in a simple modern white lacquer wood frame. Andrea Spinelli...Category
