Artist Statement
As a painter, I deal with the physical process of aligning my aesthetic to my experience. This means that perception and recollection, as well as the spectrum of emotions, are at my disposal as tools and reason to paint. The endless possibilities of exploring color, line and form sustain me. Influences abound in life for all of us, and therefore, subject and inspiration flow with fervor. Tension, relief and man’s presence in the landscape, are of interest to me. They are time and distance. They are presence and absence, and they help me to illuminate the outlook that is my view -that when pressed against many ideas help me to arrive at solutions.
My paintings become representational abstractions that consider quality of line and allow for the discernment of nuance and implication to be viewed as important parts of the whole. For me, painting transcends time. It gives me the catalyst to reflect onto canvas, panel and paper many paths to see all at once.
