Later traveling to Denmark he admired the work of Richard Mortensen and studied with him for 2 years (1963 - 1964) at Det Kongelige Akademi For De Skonne Kunster (The Kings Academy of Fine Art) in Copenhagen. Rubello completed his formal art studies receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree from The University of Michigan in 1972.
