About the Item
This is a contemporary abstract watercolor painting by artist David Ruth. This series of paintings often feature bright colors and vibrant layouts that draw the viewer in. They are created to help conceptualize his work before turning it into cast glass sculpture. These paintings come unframed.
About David Ruth's Watercolor Series in his own words:
"Watercolor is a wonderful and simple way to sketch a quick idea, compared to casting glass. I have made them for years and rarely shown my work on paper to anyone, preferring to concentrate on showing cast glass. I love the flow of watercolor. It offers an analogy for hot glass, especially the direct way I have often poured glass color and to use the streaks and inventions. I like to brag that in many of my watercolors, the brush never touches the paper. A bit of an exaggeration but to corral the flow informs the technique. I often call them Designs for Sculpture or Designs for Space. Sculptural ideas have developed in this medium which can be done quickly. Forms and movement, color combinations, new colors, gravity and even time can pour out of the brush. To see them again reminds me of old friends, my sculptures, windows, paths taken and ideas not explored."
