Victoria Kovalenchikova’s artworks are an outlook at the transformation of the world surrounding us; a shout in the cold infinity of cosmos. It is an attempt to understand the impact of people on the planet through the language of art. The contemporary trend in her paintings is characterized by a figurative integration of abstract elements. Creatively mixing media from cement, resin, acrylic and epoxy on stretched canvas, Victoria’s work is simultaneously sculptural and painting. The surface of this 32 inch tall by 40 inch wide artwork is covered with a shiny layer of clear, glass-like resin, which enhances the colors and adds depth. Lersy, dated 1961 lower right Measuring 35 X 31 Matted and framed. sight 26 X 21.5 Roger Lersy was born in Paris, France 1920, in the rough neighborhood surrounding Place Pigalle. His youth was marked by extreme poverty. Lersy studied art and music at the École des Arts Apppliqués. He was a painter, lithographer and musician-composer He belongs to the École de Paris and was a member in the movement of the Young Painting. By 1946, when he first exhibited in Paris, Lersy became one of the founders of the School of Paris’ New Graphic School. Lersy received the Prix des Amateurs d’Art in 1953, the Shell Prize in 1954 and the Grand Prize of the City of Marseilles in 1953. Lersy could be defined as a Baroque expressionist. For Bernard Dorival, Roger Lersy is along with Gabriel Dauchot, Jean Commère and Raymond Guerrier among "the most noted champions of this expressionism which is part of the continuation of Bernard Buffet's miserabilism". Prof. Richardson is the Chair of the Department of Art, he received his MFA degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and his BFA degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He joined the faculty at Maryland in 1978 and has maintained a professional focus on abstract painting and contemporary art theory. His work has been featured in 21 solo and over 100 group exhibitions in museums, galleries, and art centers in Washington, DC, New York, NY, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Missouri, Ohio, Georgia, Minnesota, Illinois, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and internationally in Brussels, Russia, Jordan and Algiers. His work is currently represented by G Fine Art in Washington DC. Past gallery affiliations include Fusebox in Washington DC, and Baumgartner Gallery in DC and NY. Richardson has received numerous grants and awards for his work, including five Maryland State Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowships. Commissioned artwork is permanently installed at Ronald Reagan National Airport and Reston Town Center in Virginia. His work is held in numerous public and corporate collections, including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (DC), the Corcoran Gallery of Art (DC), the Ackland Art Center (NC), the U.S. Department of State (Algiers), the District of Columbia Town Hall, Prudential Life (NY), IBM Corporation (DC), Richmond Federal Reserve Bank (VA), Washington Post Corporation (DC), Northrop-Grumman (VA), and Reston Town Center (VA). Richardson’s exhibitions have been reviewed in Art In America, Artforum International, ARTnews, NYArts Magazine, The Art Papers, The New Art Examiner, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Baltimore Sun, The Richmond Times Dispatch, The El Paso Times, The Winston-Salem Journal, and The Washington City Paper, among others. Essays and monographs on his work have been published in many exhibition brochures and catalogues.
