Pink Painting (Building No.4) is a unique oil on cotton canvas painting by German contemporary artist Doris Marten, dimensions are 150 × 110 cm (59.1 × 43.3 in).
The artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Although this work is firmly abstract, its title suggests the image of a figure within the painting. Inspired by a digital phenomenon, the Pink Paintings series revolves around a notion of abstraction. The parallel lines, so characteristic of the artist’s work, imitate the result of a digital camera malfunctioning, with its hypnotizing deep purple. A tendency for figuration hides behind these distinctly abstract oil paintings and it surfaces by association of ideas; the light and the colour can create images of landscapes, buildings or even figures.
Doris Marten explores the perception of colours and their influence on each other. Line reveal colours individually and they bring to life the effect of one colour upon another. The artist has developed a thorough knowledge of colours which allows her to create optical illusions, impressions of movement and intense variations of light.
