Artist Biography:
Dyanna lets material and her coastal roots drive her creative process. She explores the complicated human relationship with the natural world and each other. Dyanna often incorporates found material into her work to represent the human element and influence on things. Ecological consciousness lies close to her heart. Dyanna's process starts well before a blank canvas, noticing the colors and shapes of life around her. She collects pieces from her surroundings to use as material and to keep her attuned to her environment. Dyanna curates her materials and connects them by colors, shapes, lines and textures. She matches up materials as they are, letting the materials lead the way. Dyanna works on small-format pieces in-between larger ones, to keep her mind moving and ideas flowing. These pieces are meditative for her.We tune out thousands of objects around us because we don't have a current need or they don't seem important. Sun-bleached plastic, the inside of an envelope, these materials are the foundation for Dyanna's work, whether they make it into the finished piece or not. Through her clever use of disposable goods, she urges the viewer to change the traditional context of “trash” in their minds. She challenges her own consumption habits in the process. The waste of man made materials invades our landscapes, it invades her work in the same way.Acutely conscious of the consumerism cycle and it's impact on our environment, Dyanna would rather scavenge for her materials. In this, she encourages others to do the same. Dyanna adds environmental elements like waves, the sun and moon to a lot of her pieces. This helps us connect to the environment while viewing her work. Her signature sawblade waves act as a connection between the industrial world and the natural world. Water also symbolizes hope in a land of drought and fire.By adding playful colors, shapes and elements, Dyanna's aesthetic makes issues we obsess over, don't want to face or feel overwhelmed by, such as climate change and societal formed norms, more digestible. She hopes to help us comprehend climate change, spark awareness, curiosity and mindfulness.

- Gold CatBy Jenny DayLocated in New Orleans, LA"Lone Star, True But Whatever There was I time when I ached for the world. Before cell phones, before social media, I felt the urgency of environmental damage, of social injustice. Nothing seems to have gotten better. I'm not numb to it, but in some way I've become flip, a resigned humor like a layer of scar tissue between my concerns and the abrasion all around. Still, I was surprised how playful these paintings became. Disasters intertwine: Urns, much like the one that held my twin sister's ashes, a familial disaster, come to the forefront, variations of childhood memory.
