About the Item

Still Life with Oranges and Owls is an Original Painting by Eleanor Woolley. Painted in the Artist's Gloucestershire Studio this miniature painting shows a still life of a selection of objects arranged by the Artist. Twos stone owls sit atop a stack of books, with two small oranges and a pear. A small jug of flowers slightly obscures the window. We can see out into the garden, where there are texturally painted trunks and leaves of trees. Cadmium Red and Phthalo Green make up the most of the painting. Her first true love for painting came from an inspirational Art teacher at Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls where she started painting in Oils at thirteen years old. Here she learnt to paint using classic oil painting techniques, and was drawn to the figure from early life drawing lessons. During this period she was fortunate enough to work under Mary Fedden in her studio and with Portrait Sculptor Peter Lambda with whom she further developed her technique and composition. After gaining her BA Hons in Sculpture at Leeds University Eleanor travelled for some time in Asia before coming home to study Furniture making. Eleanor worked as a Cabinet maker and a Restorer before returning to Fine Art painting. Eleanor’s inspiration is taken from her surroundings where she has a love for the every day things, often passed by without a second thought. Eleanor’s paintings are vibrant, often painted Plein air and finished in the studio. Starting with bold outlines, many layers of paint are used to create the depth of colour. Her paintings are spontaneous, using washes of oil to create the desired form. Often finishing with a palette knife producing a pleasing texture. Her current work is inspired by the landscape of the Cotswolds, and contrasted with long shadows created by figures in urban landscapes.

Robert Dunt, Dian, 2016, oil on canvas, 142.5 x 142.5cm, original painting for sale. "For me these paintings are dealing with colour and space. I’m endeavouring to push simple colour combinations to their absolute limit. For example with this painting the colours pink and black. I wanted to make the colours resonate in our eyes as much as possible. To a degree I was working within the same sphere of investigation as the pointillists, like Paul Signac." Robert Dunt paintings are available to buy online with Wychwood Art. Robert Dunt is an abstract/pop art artist who graduated from City & Guilds of London Art School (2004) with First Class honours. Robert Dunt paintings, prints and installations are inspired by music and explore the use of colour in a contemporary context. His practice has a rebel ethic that distorts art traditions in order to create surprising and original works: “Like putting Botticelli’s Venus through a Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face distortion pedal.” Rebert Dunt has exhibited nationally and internationally. He has had several solo shows - Madonnas and Housemasters, Charterhouse School (2015), Break on Through, Waterloo Gallery (2004) and I Wanna Trip You Up, Covent Garden (2004). Selected group exhibitions include Alien Beauty, Vyner Street; Fun House, The Empire Bethnal Green...
