About the Item
"Nasturtium, Diptych" is an abstract diptych painting of two potted plants. On the lefthand canvas the background is painted a thin hookers green and resin was poured over the top. The potted flower is painted over the resin, sitting on a white stippled table with a thick yellow edge. Yellow stipples are painted around the plant. The righthand painting has intentionally exposed canvas soft smudges of green paint through the middle of the canvas and navy up in the upper lefthand corner, at the middle of the composition. A heavy impasto flower in a red pot is painted on the exposed canvas. Over the background are thick inch long marks. The two canvases are bolted together at the back.

Darius Yektai was born in Southampton NY, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. He grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American Mother, and his Father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the US after the Second World War, was a prominent Hamptons AbEx painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his-own.
The Falling Flower series from Yektai show the influence of the mid century modern "Action" painters that were colleagues of Manucher Yektai (Darius Yektai's father). We are especially reminded of DeKooning's later work, which was happening out here on the East End of Long Island during Darius Yektai's formative years.
Darius' most recent body of work is bright, colorful, with oil and acrylic paints laid on thick. He's creating sculptural paintings that can't be read from left to right, they need to be examined from surface to base, from section to section, and then overall as an encompassing whole.

Darius Yektai
Darius Yektai was born in Southampton, New York, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. Darius grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American mother and his father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the United States after the Second World War. Manoucher was a prominent Hamptons Abstract Expressionist painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his own.
