Thank you for your conisderation! ************* DAY MAPS in the words of artist, Evan Venegas: Painting began for me as a way to improvise and organize what was in my mind. Seeing my inner dialogue reflected on paper heightened my self-awareness and I wanted to share this experience with others. I seek to create an experience or a state of mind for the viewer that inspires a change in perception or a focused consciousness. On a technical basis I am always fine tuning and exploring what shapes, colors, and scale best allow for this type of experience. The birth of my daughter inspired my Day Maps paintings. I use watercolors, which is a delicate medium, a basic shape, and subtle use of color to show fragility. I want to show a complete body, while at the time, showing the individual parts that create it. My process was initiated by my daily organizing and setting values to life tasks, events, situations, and other "emotional data." I then translate these values into different colors and sizes of circles. The arrangement of these individual shapes, which build a unified piece, represents the process of balancing elements in my life. BIOGRAPHY (100 words) Evan Venegas lives and works in Queens, NY and was a 2017 recipient of the Sustainable Arts Foundation Award. His numerous group exhibitions include “Round It Up!” at Muriel Guépin Gallery, New York, NY and “STREET LIFE (gruppeudstilling)” at Galerie Wolfsen in Aalborg, Denmark. Venegas was honored with the Community Supported Arts & Design Award in 2015. Public Collections include Hospital for Special Surgery and New York Presbyterian Hospital. EMOTIONAL DATE For most of my early life, I believed “sensitivity” was a liability and growing up in a blue-collar neighborhood in Queens in some ways it was. Later in life, I learned that hyper-awareness of, “knowing where others are coming from” can be an asset and I refer to this as Emotional Data. I collect emotional data internally without physical note-taking. I am a receptor of the ways people interact: I also observe how humans build things in relationship to nature, and things other humans made. Words I hear people say and the reactions they cause. How people travel, how people express themselves with colors and many other cues that I am sensitive. I don’t think I am unique in my experience.
