An exciting, rare and impressive painting that is of a great size for a sofa or long wall. Very hard to find paintings with this format. It is of an early and important historical date as this abstract expressionist movement was in its earliest days at this time in the late 1940's. Surface and quality of this work are also impressive - great build up of paint layer and texture and interesting color palette that is alluring and great for contemporary interiors that need modulated color but black punctuation! Martinelli was a Chicago based artist who had a great and noted career. These early works are held in collections and are rarely available. He later moved toward a more surrealist style. This early work was much in the same approach as artist Arshile Gorky. This is framed in a lovely quality dark wood frame that accentuates the piece.
