Born in 1985, Flore Sigrist started to paint spontaneously without either a model or a teacher. Her artistic talent was brought forward by her sensory hypersensitivity, which gave her a particular understanding of colors and their interaction. Her first exhibition in 1989 revealed a striking vigor of lines and colors and the unexpected authority in herself, a child, who, unaware of modern art, embraced painting without hesitation or a need to reproduce past models. In many ways Sigrist’s original, almost indigenous painting style puts her in line with the abstract expressionists, who turned to new, experimental, and abstract painting in search for the same artistic values. In particular, the Lyrical Abstraction movement, which emerged in the 1960s–1970s and is characterized by intuitive and loose paint handling, spontaneous expression, illusionist space and occasional imagery. Bright, colorful, even abstract, these true works of art illustrate her need for personal expression. This is a harrowing and dramatic art, where the reds and the blues, the greys and the yellows resonate in an abstract and expressionist inspiration. Such is unique art of Flore Sigrist.
