About the Item

The word "Baram" has two meanings in Korean: "wish (feel or express a strong desire or hope for something that is not easily attainable)" and "wind (the perceptible natural movement of the air)." The "Baram Series" portrays the moment of the air that's stopped in a simple two-dimensional form. Thus, the wind in the Baram Series represents the "present", which means the wind that has already blown represents the "past", and the wind that is about to blow represents the "future". Our wind in the past may be calm or turbulent. Regardless, the present is filled with hope, strongly wishing for the future wind to guide us to happiness. Maybe, these winds in our lives are dictated by our choices, and Baram Series embodies wish to deliver hope to all viewers facing the winds of their choices. Geonwoo Lee was born in Seoul, the capital city of South Korea. Geonwoo Lee debuted with wooden sculptures at the Korean National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in 2017. Since the debut, Geonwoo Lee has been expanding my artistic expressions beyond sculptures to paintings and various forms of media arts and continuing diverse exhibitions in Korea.Furthermore, Geonwoo Lee’s works have been exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London and have been part of many global exhibitions. They were also displayed in luxury hotels, sponsored and featured by broadcasts and media, and won numerous awards. Geonwoo Lee’s works are based on contemplation of life and are mostly inspired by nature. Representing artificial forms with irregular repetition and/or representing natural forms into artificial forms are defining characteristics of Geonwoo Lee’s works, which portray many contrasts in our lives. By presenting mixture of "natural and artificial elements", "completeness and incompleteness", and "regular and irregular.
