Focality, from the series Spatial history, was painted earlier in 2016 whilst the Artist was re focusing on the central point and meaning of her practice.
In the series Spatial history, Parr revisits places and journeys that are often defined by emotion. Tensions between past and present, joy and saudade, presence and absence continue to inhabit her visual language, expressed through a set of coded references and metaphors, whist she explores the balance of spontaneity and considered control during the painting process.
Parr uses pallet knife, brush and sponge building up layers of paint and charcoal and washing away in a process that becomes as important to remove as to add, a kind of reverberation of relationship with the canvas of addition and subtraction, push and pull.
Signed and dated on the side of the canvas the painting is ready to hang. The canvas is deep edged 4.4cm which shows small signs of the working process to the canvas sides.

Gina Parr works predominantly in the medium of painting, but also photographs when traveling: her way of painting whilst on the move. Her work is driven by autobiographical themes and natural reference, exploring the human condition through connections to place, time, space and memory. She has exhibited widely in galleries and art fairs in the UK and completed commissions in The Middle East, Belguim and London. Her works are held in collections Worldwide including Keble College Oxford, Director of Jestico + Whiles Architects London, President of the Boston's Children's Museum USA, and Goldman Sachs Senior Economist, London. Originally trained as a Fine Artist, graduating with a First Class BA Honours Degree, she went on to Chelsea College of Art to study Set Design, leading to a 25 year career designing many prestigious shows for stage and television. During this time she also lectured in art and design in various colleges including Chelsea College of Art and Nottingham University.
