C23-6 (Abstract Geometric Color Field Multi Panel Painting in Charcoal Grey)

About the Item

C23-6, 2023 Geometric Abstract Color Field Panel Painting by Ginny Fox in Charcoal Gray Painting is on three panels (2) 24 x 18 inches, (1) 24 x 12 inches Can be oriented horizontally or vertically At once minimal and complex, the abstract multi-panel paintings of Ginny Fox track the artist's exploration of color, texture and line. Fox builds up the surface of her works in thin layers, using unconventional tools such as rags and t-shirts to make marks. This triptych, titled "C23-6," guides the eye across interwoven swaths of dark blue pigment. While the surfaces register as highly organic, their orientation across multiple panels adds an modern, sculptural element to the painting. What's more, the panels may be oriented either horizontally or vertically. Ginny Fox's artist statement: "My paintings are a merging of textures and colors referencing both organic and fabricated materials. I am inspired equally by patterns in nature, as well as those in textiles, architecture, and a myriad of manufactured elements. After many years living in the Bronx, I recently moved back to the Upper West Side of Manhattan, where the confluence of the Hudson River, its rocky environs, and multiple architectural structures has become a renewed source of inspiration. My studio in Yonkers, New York is in a turn of the century carpet mill overlooking hills and industrial complexes, another locale containing the merging of elements so integral to my work. Layers of time evident in random markings on stone; light raked across water and sky; and the open weave of moss covered earth all inform the work, resulting in a cohesive entity. By layering and removing paint with rags instead of brushes, my hand is directly involved with the process. Many of the paintings comprise of multiple panels, allowing for a subtle narrative of a nuanced and evolving universe."

  • Untitled 2 (Contemporary Abstract Geometric Painting in Blue, Red, Black)
    By Ralph Stout
    Located in Hudson, NY
Abstract minimalist color block painting on panel "Untitled 2", painted by Ralph Stout in 2019 16 x 16 x 2 inches, acrylic on panel Sides are painted black, additional framing is optional Ready to hang as is This abstract minimalist, mid-century modern style painting on canvas was made by East Hampton based artist, Ralph Stout, in 2019. The composition features an interlocking pattern of dark teal, blue and black. The painting is on panel with black painted sides. The artist's signature is located on the back. Ralph Stout refers to his approach to abstract painting as “incremental adventurism”. This sums up Stout’s calculated combos of vivid pigments and defined forms layered on top of fluid underdrawings. The artist first creates space using simple linework with graphite pencil; intertwining curvy lines or straight intersecting angles are drawn in varying densities. He then fills the spaces with blocks of pure, vivid color without any real detail other than the outlines of each form that begins to appear. Each mass is connected in stark juxtaposition using intense contrast of color and line. It is the delicate tension between the background and foreground that reveals a solid graphic that is full of vibration. About the artist: Since devoting himself full time to visual art after a long career in computer...

Shades of dark magenta and purple contrast with rich creams in this abstract composition. Paint has been built up in layers and then sanded back to reveal the history of the piece, and to create a surface full of depth and visual interest. The bold mark-making and shapes bring a lively contrast. The work is presented in a natural wood tray frame, not a wide border frame as in the in situ photos.
