About the Item
Acrylic paint/mixed media on plexiglass. These paintings are non-verbal thoughts of my environmental experiences from cities, mountains and deserts. The places I have lived influence my work. From the soaring skyscrapers in New York City to the expansive groves of aspen trees in the mountains of Colorado to the dynamic red rock cliffs in deserts of Southern Utah. There is an aesthetically pleasing fractal pattern, that unites these environmental locations as well as this body of work. The power of the repeating chaotic vertical patterns in nature share a similarity with controlled architectural elements of buildings reaching to the sky in cities. This series of paintings does two things simultaneously. First they draw on the infinite complex fractal patterns to make a visually stimulating painting. At the same time the various degrees of self-similarity are aesthetically pleasing, calming and possess a stress reducing effect on the viewer.

- Abstract 64 - Abstract Expressionist Mixed Media (Black + Yellow + Cream)By Helen BellaverLocated in Gilroy, CA"Abstract 64," is a contemporary Abstract painting by San Jose-based artist Helen Bellaver. In this work, Helen layers a medium onto her canvas or paper to create a subtle texture, which she then layers her acrylic paint on to create depth and detail. This work creates a sense of energy as the eye is drawn to the rich black and relieved by golden tones of cream as it intertwines itself into the foreground of the painting. Helen Bellaver is an abstract expressionist living in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she has been practicing for the last thirty years. Her work has evolved into expressions of black. To the artist, black brings her a sense of calm and is at the forefront of her works. She uses it as her foreground, and in the background, she has layers of creams, whites, blues, ochres, browns, reds, etc. The mark-making on her works comes directly from the genre of Abstract Expressionism...Category
