Helen Bellaver
Three - Geometric Abstract Expressionist Acrylic Painting with Pastel Colors

2018

About the Item

"Three" is a mixed media abstract work on wood panel by California based abstract artist Helen Bellaver. This work, and it's partner piece "Four," show the transition between her series of works in 2016-2017 that are lighter in palette, to her 2018-2020 that foreground the color black. Bellaver still maintains unity throughout her works with her subtle use of color and creamy white in the background. Please follow our storefront for new listings, more works by Bellaver and sales. Inquire for videos of this work to see the beautiful texture and color! The work does not need to be framed as the natural wood grain of the wood panel is varnished for a clean, finished look. We will ship this via standard parcel boxed with internal support to maintain the integrity of the piece. The work will be fully insured during shipping. If you prefer a different method of shipping, inquire and we are happy to accommodate your requests. Our first priorities are our collectors satisfaction, and the artwork's safety in transit. We accept returns within 7 days, if we are notified within 24hrs of receipt of the work to ensure a worry-free collecting process. If you are local to the San Francisco Bay Area, we will deliver for free. Handling time will be 2-3 business days, and shipping will be 2-5 business days from date of order confirmation for standard parcel. Helen Bellaver is an abstract expressionist living in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she has been practicing for the last thirty years. Her work has evolved into expressions of black. To the artist, black brings her a sense of calm, and is the forefront of her works. She uses it as her foreground, and in the background she has layers of creams, whites, blues, ochres, browns, reds etc. Bellaver's style is akin to the great Abstract Expressionists such as Clyfford Still, Franz Kline and colorfield painter Mark Rothko. The mark making on her works come directly from the genre of Abstract Expressionism, and her emotions breakthrough the compositions powerfully. Her canvases are worked and worked, with an immense amount of depth to them. Pictures do not do her work justice, and video is truly the way to see her work virtually. We have many videos of her work, feel free to inquire to see one specifically.

  • Young Man Sidelined (Rush Week Sisyphus I) - Contemporary Painting (Pink+Blue)
    By Vivian Liddell
    Located in Gilroy, CA
"Young Man Sidelined (Rush Week Sisyphus I)" is an original contemporary painting by Georgia-based artist Vivian Liddell. This work is part of her new 2022 series titled "Myth of Sisyphus." As a multidisciplinary artist, Liddell brings a dynamic approach to her vivid, colorful two-dimensional pieces. This stunning abstract piece has bold forms and strong value creating a surreal landscape. From the artist: "Gender and power are core concepts in my work. I’ve spent two decades in “The Classic City” (Athens, Georgia), surrounded by a dual Greek culture. Fraternities and sororities separate students by gender and play a part in cementing gender roles and power structures for the next generation; ubiquitous Classical architecture (often accompanied by manicured landscape) is a constant reminder of Western ideals. After a career of painting the female figure and exploring themes related to the male gaze and the lingering inequalities that women face, I’ve focused the past five years on the male figure and his domain. My education was dominated by Western art history, where women were seen as muses; I’m reversing this traditional dynamic between the male artist/intellectual and his female subject. I create tiny “plays” with handmade props and puppet plasticine figures to reenact imagined dramas that might happen on any given home game day...
