気 Ki, 2021 Personal dance ~ painting - Long distance healing for someone special Acrylic on fabric 80 x 80 cm In Japanese culture, « 気 Ki » is woven into day-to-day language in numerous ways, but essentially refers to a life force, similar to air and breathing. It is an energy that flows through the universe and everything in it. Also found in other cultures and tradition - « Prana » in Sanskrit has similar meaning in Hinduisim. The pictogram 気 combines the symbols for rice and steam or vapor, combining a simple inanimate thing with an animation that brings it to life, when the energy is released. « Ki » can equally represent a sense of wonder, inspiration and creativity that we all experience. When cultivated, it can be used for healing (reiki, acupuncture) or even self-defence purposes (aikido). « Ki » as the « ether of intention » “Before anything is done, it must be intended, and that immediately gets ki going. So, everything is first done in this ether of intention, only later to manifest itself in the material world. The creative principle, without which nothing would happen.
